Questions? We have answers.

What about nails on the rear paws?

Playnails is designed primarily for front paws — which are where most nail problems start. Front nails grow faster and are typically the hardest to trim because dogs resist handling them. Rear nails naturally wear down more from walking and usually don't overgrow as quickly.

Is this safe for the paw pads?

Yes — the scratch surface files nails gradually while your dog scratches naturally, without harming the paw pads. Dogs control the pressure themselves, so it's a gentle, self-regulated process rather than a forced trim.

How long does it take for dogs to learn to use it?

Most dogs understand the concept within a few short training sessions, especially with high-value treats. Some start scratching the very first day; others take a few days of gentle encouragement.

What if it doesn't work for my dog?

Every dog is different — it may take a few weeks to teach them. If you need help training your pup to use it, our support team is here to help, and you're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee.

Extremely well-made with solid materials and a clever treat drawer to encourage use—brilliant concept!

After 1 week, I would give it 5 stars. My dog is reactive and one of his triggers is his paws being touched. I have worked my way up over the years to do his nails myself, in lieu of sedation at the vet, but i still sometimes only get 2-3 nails done before he starts to show signs of being anxious and we have to stop. This nail file definitely files his nails down and he 100% thinks its a game. He gets really excited when I go get it and he's wagging his tail the entire time. We're still building up to multiple paw swipes at a time, but I think this is a great alternative for us!

It's amazing for my crazy pittie girl!! We have to work with her slowly but it's super effective and no stress. She loves her new job!! You do have to hold it for a strong dog. She paws and she gets a treat. Very fun and nobody is crying!!

My dog loves it. She's a pointer mix and is 58 pounds. She really enjoyed the positive reinforcement. At first it took a little while for her to get the concept so you might have to get creative, especially if your pup is afraid of their nails getting trimmed. Once she got it, it was a great way to get her nails down. The only thing I will say is that when she was first trying to get it, she was nibbling at the board so it peeled a little bit for the price, I can't complain. Would definitely recommend.

Easy to train our puppies to use. Now they vigorously scratch 2-3 times, and get a little treat. They love it! Only works for the front claws, but that is what we needed. When I trimmed the front claws with clippers, they were worse! ha ha. Like little half-moon scratchy claws. This helps smooth them out nicely. The puppies do not like me buffing their claws, but they LOVE scratching on this to get a treat. Having the hidden treat compartment really helps my little girls.

Like another reviewer said, i love this because it changes the dynamic between your and your dog, you're not 'doing' anything to them anymore (ie. restraining them to clip their nails), they are interacting with the board themselves. I seriously think that this will help me and my adopted shelter dog get closer and have a better relationship. She's already got a hang of it!

My little loves this, I subbed to the yearly surface refills (like 9$ a year) and they send me the surfaces automatically. Makes doing nails so easy no more fights.

Finally can shorten my dog's nails without worrying about nicking him! He is food-motivated so he likes it when we play with this. Sometimes he only half-heartedly scratches but it still wears them down! It's rough like 80 grit sandpaper and you can buy refills that stick on over the older surface when it gets worn off. Totally worth it!

Really good quality and the sandpaper looks like it'll last a long while.

Took my beagle about a week to get the idea. Once she did, she's obsessed. Docking one star only because the treat drawer is a little stiff.

I have a 90lb lab who screamed at nail clippers. Three sessions and he files them himself. My only regret is not buying this sooner.

Rescue with severe handling anxiety. He won't let anyone touch his paws, but he'll scratch this all day for a treat. Life changing.
